Model 59 Introduction

When I began looking at Bugatti’s seriously, I initially fell in love with the iconic Model 35.  Over time, however, I grew to really like the more evolved Model 59 even more.  It was the most advanced race car in its time and I loved all the detail this design incorporates.

My initial plan was to build this model for my first cyclekart project using carbon fiber to keep it as light as possible.

Some of the videos and design challenges I have published under my Type 59 build describe my initial attempt at carbon fiber and building the chassis.  I soon recognized that this was going to be a much larger endeavor than initially imagined.  So I shelved this project and built a carbon fiber fishing platform for the bow of my ski-boat.  I learned a lot from that experience; one of which was doing layups in a cold shop did not setup very well.

As a result, I decided to pick another Bugatti model (Type 13) and build it out of metal for my first cyclekart.  This will allow me to build through the winter in my 6o-65 degree heated garage well enough.  Once that is finished, I will return to the Type 59 carbon fiber super speedster; hopefully next summer.
