All the Bugatti’s used thumb type screws to assemble body parts to the frame. A safety wire strings across all these exterior mounted screws to keep the screws from vibrating free. Safety wiring is a common practice on all gas powered reciprocating engines turning a propeller. Once all the prop bolts are set to the appropriate pressure, a double wire is twisted as the wire goes from bolt to bolt. I found I could resource these screws for the UK, but the overall cost would be prohibited and also be too large for scale. Home Depot also has some for about $1.85 each, again over priced and not really to scale.
So I decided this was where another opportunity existed to use my 3D printer. Using my Fusion 360 CAD program I designed a full length thumb screw to scale. But it failed several times. I then shortened the screw length, as I was only going to drill small holes in the outer carbon fiber skin and glue them in. I printed them in a metallic colored filament, but it was a dull finish and did not look like chrome. So I will try spray coloring them with a chrome spray. If that works, I can proceed printing them out.
