I was surprised to learn many had installed electrical systems and starter motors. A comment was made that sometimes that does not work real well with the stronger valve springs.
One cyclekart builder had the engine choke control inside the cockpit just to the right side near the hip. Unfortunately, he also placed the starter key on the right side of the panel, so it was a bit awkward watching him start the car as his right hand could not be in both places at the same time. So perhaps I will put the key/starter on the left side of the panel and the choke on the right as it favors the side where the choke is located on the engine.
I like the idea of electric start even though it will add more weight. As my first cyclekart and big keester will prevent me from running anywhere near the lead of the pack, for now, I think I will add the engine stator, starter, and battery system on my Brescia. It will hopefully make life easier and give me extra experience.
I like how Steve Vinson incorporated a small rechargeable battery to power some of the electrical components in one of his cars. As such I could power:
- Headlights
- Tail brake lights
- Warning horn
- Interior instrument panel lights
